At the heart of the SF90 is a 4.0L V8 engine aided by two turbochargers and three electric motors. The combination is good for a staggering 986 horsepower. Of those electric motors, two are positioned at the front wheels, while the third one sits between the engine and the transmission - an 8-speed dual-clutch unit. There are many benefits to such a setup, the instant surge of electric motors allows the SF90 to make excellent low down torque, while the compact motors at the front of the car give it all-wheel traction without the packaging constraints that come with more conventional all-wheel drive systems. Ferrari claims a 0-60 mph time of just 2.5 seconds when all is said and done.
But the SF90 Stradale isn't just a hybrid, it's a plug-in hybrid, meaning that the car can actually operate in electric only mode for up to 16 miles before the conventional engine has to kick in and recharge the battery. During this time, the Ferrari is motivated exclusively via its front wheels which is a first for any Ferrari ever built. And while mileage is ultimately still in the realm of most Ferrari vehicles, owners who use the SF90 mainly on short drives will derive a sizable fuel savings benefit from that hybrid drivetrain.
Inside, the SF90 has a cockpit that's every bit as space age as the rest of the car. It's somewhat minimalistic, but still features plenty of tech and convenience features. These include a large digital instrument cluster for the driver, Apple CarPlay, power adjustable seats, automatic climate control, keyless entry and ignition, a powered tilt and telescoping steering column, navigation and Bluetooth connectivity.
