At the heart of the Ferrari 296 lies a revolutionary powertrain that redefines Ferrari's approach to hybrid technology. The centerpiece is a new 3L twin-turbocharged V6 engine. It is a combination that makes 654 horsepower and 545 lb.-ft of torque, which is then sent to the rear wheels via an 8-speed dual clutch gearbox. The electric motor adds an additional 164 horsepower, bringing the combined output to a staggering 818 horsepower. With a 0-60 time of under three seconds, the 296 is extremely fast, but just noting its performance does not do the drivetrain justice. Despite all that power, the 296 should still return about 47 MPGe on the highway according to the EPA.
Unlike many of its competitors, the Ferrari 296 does not feature endless option packages, instead letting potential buyers design and customize their Ferrari with a variety of aesthetic options. The cabin is a driver-focused environment, with all controls intuitively placed for ease of use. There are of course multiple interior and exterior colors as well as seat designs, brake caliper colors and carbon fiber accents available. Exhaust tips can be had in several different colors as well and Ferrari even lets potential owners choose between black, silver, red, yellow, or white for the tachometer. However, the details of the 296 remain the same, with every car featuring the same engine, transmission, interior electronics, and carbon ceramic brakes.
The Ferrari 296 comes standard with 20-inch alloy wheels, electrically adjustable sport bucket front seats, leather seats, a power telescoping and tilting leather steering wheel, adaptive damper suspension, keyless entry with push button start, rear parking sensors, and automatic air conditioning.
The Ferrari 296 infotainment system comes standard with 6-speaker sound system with 16-inch touchscreen, an 8.8-inch passenger touchscreen, voice-activated navigation, Bluetooth integration, 2 USB ports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
