Powering the DB11 is a choice of two different engines. The V8 Coupe and the DB11 Volante are both powered by a 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 engine making 503 horsepower. In V8 guise, the Aston Martin DB11 will go from zero to sixty miles per hour in just 4 seconds though the convertible version takes a tenth of a second longer thanks to its slightly heavier weight. The high performance DB11 AMR is powered by a larger 5.2L V12 engine, also equipped with twin-turbos. It's a combination that's good for 630 horsepower with a claimed 0-60 time of 3.7 seconds. Both engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission mounted in the rear for better weight distribution and power is sent exclusively to the rear wheels. Aston Martin claims that flat out, the V8 cars will reach 187 mph, while the V12 equipped car can go 208 mph.
The DB11 AMR is the flagship model of the three. It boasts increased power, enhanced driving dynamics and a sportier exhaust note. If buyers are looking for the quintessential touring vehicle, the Volante convertible is the best option for a great touring experience in a high-performance luxury automobile.
As would be expected at this price point, all three trim levels come generously equipped, though Aston Martin will still be happy to sell prospective owners on a variety of extra equipment and customization options. The base V8 coupe comes standard with an interior covered in Strathmore leather, an alcantara headliner, memory seats and mirrors with heating, a 360 degree camera system, front and rear parking sensors, 20-inch wheels, a 400-watt sound system, an 8-inch LCD display with iPod and iPhone integration and SiriusXM Satellite radio.
Optional equipment includes Balmoral leather seating surfaces, a two-tone leather interior, an embroidered headrest with either the Aston Martin logo or the DB11 nameplate, vented seats, a huge number of optional wood inlays for the dashboard, an automatic parking system, a variety of different steering wheels and either a 700-watt premium sound system or a 1000-watt Bang and Olufsen sound system. Even the seatbelts can be had in a variety of colors.
The exterior of the car can be similarly customized with the option of having a painted gloss black roof, a gloss black front splitter, gloss black roof strakes and a variety of 20-inch wheel styles. Brakes can be had in either yellow, red, black, or one of two shades of grey, while Aston Martin also offers an exterior finish pack that changes the color of the exhaust, front grille and side strakes. There is even an option for a carbon fiber engine cover, which will of course only be visible with the hood open.
Other whimsical options include a four-piece luggage set which can be matched to the car's interior, or a bespoke leather key pouch to protect the jewel like key fob. A first aid kit, an Aston Martin umbrella and a rechargeable flashlight are also available as options.
Refined packages Aston Martin offers for DB11 include the Signature Package, Travel Package and the Touring Package.
Beautiful But Modern Styling
Powerful Engine Choices
Multiple Body Styles
For 2020, the Aston Martin DB11 does not receive any major changes to the lineup.
The Aston Martin DB11 competes with other ultra-high-performance luxury cars such as the Bentley Continental GT, the Porsche 911 Turbo and the Ferrari Portofino. Nobody is accusing the DB11 of being inexpensive. However, it does offer a nice sweet spot between luxury and performance, being a bit more luxurious than the Ferrari, while being sportier than the Bentley. And unlike the 911 Turbo, the DB11 doesn't share any sheet metal with lesser cars. Available as either a coupe or a convertible, with a choice of multiple engines, the DB11 is highly customizable and should work reasonably well as a supercar that can be driven on a day to day basis.
